Opal
Birthstone for October
Cabochon-Cut Opal Dazzles with Color
and Brilliance
Opal is one of the few
gemstones that presents best when cut in cabochon. Cabochon is a flat,
smooth cut, without any facets, as facets add nothing to the beauty of this
multicolor gem. In fact, color is everything with opal. The more
vivid the display of colors, the more valuable it will be. Both translate to
“precious stone.” White opal has a light or white body color with a
lovely pastel rainbow of colors. Black opal has a dark body color of
black, blue, green or gray, accented by a vivid display of red, pink and bright
green. Opal, the birthstone of October, was named from both the Latin word “opulus,”
and the Sanskrit word, “upala.” Opal is the perfect colorful birthstone of
October and is also the official gift for the 14th wedding anniversary
